The Legion of Mary was founded in Dublin, Ireland on 7th September 1921 by this great man, Frank Duff – born on 7th June 1889 and died on 7th November 1980.

To glorify GOD through the holiness of its members developed by prayers and active cooperation in Mary’s and the Church’s works

Apostolic Works

Members become instrument of the Holy Spirit through a balanced program of prayer and service.

Legion works include
  • Evangelization
  • Home Visitation
  • Visitation of the Sick / Aged / Homebound
  • Religious education (Catechism)
  • Also meeting the other spiritual needs of the Parish Community
Spiritual Growth

The Legion of Mary has it twofold purpose, the development of its members and advancement of the reign of Christ through Mary.

Spiritual Growth

This is done by a unit of the Legion of Mary called Praesidium. The Praesidium’s main activities are weekly meetings and assigned works such as visitation and contact works. (The Praesidium is like a Detachment of the Roman Legion, performing special duty that is a Section to a military line, a fortified post, a garrison.)

The Legion of Mary also organize Retreats, Congresses, Seminars and ACIES (This Latin word, meaning as it does an army ranged in battle array - a ceremony in which the Legionaries as a body assemble to renew their fealty to Mary, Queen of the Legion)

All these Activities are to deepen their faith in GOD.

Fellowship & Get Together

It is necessary to periodically bring together the members of the Legion of Mary so that they may get to know each other and the spirit of unity may be fostered.

Activities include:

  • Indoor Functions
  • Outdoor Functions
  • Annual General Reunion
