We are honoured to be called as Lectors because Jesus was a Lector.

"He went into the synagogue, according to his custom on the Sabbath day, and he rose up to read" - Luke 4:17

A Lector allows the people to sense the presence of Jesus through his or her proclamation of the Word. As a Lector you bring the printed Word to life, making it flesh. You bring God's presence into the liturgy. You give voice to God's healing and strengthening Word as it goes out to the faithful.

Our Calling as Lectors embody both personal and community levels. The personal level entails personal commitment on our part and prioritisation of our time and activities for prayer and preparation. The community level is a larger, shared responsibility which is the essence of Christian living. Lectors come together regularly on Sundays, to Break Open the Word, share the faith, inspire and nurture each other to be effective and faithful Proclaimers of the Word to serve the larger parish community. Being in community is never about, "what's in it for me?". Rather, "what do I give to the community?", for it is only in giving that we truly grow in our Calling.
